Bio
Rock
was introduced to the piano earlier than he can remember. His
father, a natural and accomplished musician of guitar, mandolin,
and banjo, and also an early band member with famed country
guitarist Lester Flatt, some of Rock's earliest recollections
were playing along with his Dad and fellow strummin' buddies
while they rehearsed.
Formal
lessons began at age 11 and continued through a masters degree
in applied music. His teachers have been respected musicians
and scholars in the Triangle area and beyond, including the
well-known contemporary pedagogue, Jane Magrath. Rock attended
UNC-Chapel Hill, the University of Kentucky, and attended summer
music festivals in British Columbia, Canada, as well as additional
study in New York City. Some of his master class teachers have
included John Ogdon, Ruth Laredo, and Nelita True.
